Life is Rich for a San Francisco Art Angel Determined to Change the World
Those who have not yet heard of her may not be aware of the Art Angel of San Francisco because we must be honest and admit that the media is established to sell stories and tragedy sells far more advertising spots that grace and a good heart. The fact is, Dede Wilsey is one of the most under recognized women in the United States at this time, a time when the world could use another beacon of hope. During an intense time of financial crises, Dede was not content to sit back and hope her power and position could protect her. She got out and mingled with those who did have the financial resources to make big dreams happen. Dreams of a hospital extension to the University of California at San Francisco, a hospital which would provide hundreds of beds to aid in the care of children, the specialized needs of female patients and even those struggling to fight off cancer. Where she could do good, she did and the results show as the hospital nears completion.
That isn’t even counting all that she has done for the art world in San Francisco and beyond. She has chosen to support the museum through ten long years of fundraising, battling political opponents and seeking to enrich the lives of those who not only live in the city, but those who come from around the world to see the work of established and up and coming artists whose talent can be shared to offer hope and inspiration around the world. She has fought valiantly to procure the more than $200 million it has taken to get the project off the ground and even worked with the architects to design the building itself. When it comes to the arts, Dede Wilsey sees the value and does all within her significant power to protect that gift to the world.
